Australia has about 15 ski resorts, but the runs are relatively short. New Zealand has some very good skiing opportunities.
In the winter months in Australia snow falls in the alpine ranges in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. The ski season generally runs from mid June until early October and is pretty much guarantied due to extensive snow making facilities.
New Zealand can't quite compete with variety and sheer number of resorts in Europe, but the pistes are normally not so crowded. The main resorts in New Zealand's South Island are based in Queenstown, Wanaka and Methven. On the North Island, the ski areas are more or less mid way between Auckland in the north and Wellington in the south.
