Croatia and Slovenia has dozens of well-equipped ski centers with lifts. Skiing in Croatia or Slovenia is less expensive than most other places in Europe.
Mount Sljeme, just outside Zagreb is the most conveniently located ski resort. It is situated on the northern slopes of Medvednica mountain, one of CROATIA's nature parks. Sljerne offers four ski runs, two ski lifts and a triple chair lift. The runs offer skiing at all levels. Usually there is snow for about three months a year, and the resort is easy to reach by tram or bus from Zagreb.
Another option is Platak, 26 km northeast of Rijeka which has seven ski runs and 10 km of cross-country trails. There is snow until May, and you get a view of the sea from the top. The equipment and facilities are modern and in good order.
Croatia Olympic Center at Bjelolasica near Karlovac is easily reachable by car, bus or train from Zagreb. It is Croatia's largest ski resort and also offers snow boarding, cross-country skiing. However, the resort does not get that much snow and sometimes have to resort to artificial snow.
SLOVENIA has dozens of well-equipped ski centers with lifts. The best known ski centers are Kranjska Gora, which hosts an annual World Cup men's slalom and giant slalom competition, and Maribor Pohorje, which hosts the annual World Cup women's slalom and giant slalom Golden Fox competition.
The highest ski center in Slovenia is on Mount Kanin, where the snow remains well into spring. Also among the most popular destinations for alpine skiers are Krvavec, not far from Ljubljana, Rogla in the Zrece Pohorje region, and Golte above Mozirje. Cerkno Ski Center is the most modern family ski slope in Slovenia.
