The French ski resorts are among the most popular in Europe and offers a great variety for skiers and snowboarders at all levels.

There are more than 400 fully equipped ski resorts situated in the Alps range out of which more than 80 are located in the French Alps. The current top ten most popular resorts in France are: Val d'Isere, Meribel, Val Thorens, Tignes, Les Arcs, Courchevel, La Plagne, Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alps and Chamonix.

France can be divided into three main ski resorts areas, the Northern Alps, the Southern Alps and the Pyrenees. The Northern Alps includes the Three Valleys that incorporates Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens and L'Espace Killy which links Tignes and Val D'Isere. The Southern Alps includes areas such as Les Deux Alpes, Alpe d'Huez and La Grave.

Spending winter holiday in the French Alps is quite expensive in comparison to Austria or Italy, but skiing possibilities and service quality is very good and will let you forget the cost. In peak season the French ski resorts tend to be very crowded, and prices even higher, so avoid the most popular times of the skiing season if you can.

The French Pyrenees are home to 38 ski resorts, along with around 1,000 km of cross-country trail. The quality of skiing and snowboarding in the French Pyrenees is high after massive investments in recent years in efficient lift systems, and the ski and snowboarding pists are fresh and without the crowds you find in the Alps. Add to this that prices are a lot lover compared to the alpine ski resorts. The ski season in the Pyrenees begins in November, if the snow arrives, and ends after the French Easter holidays.

Among the most popular French ski resorts in the Pyrenees is Saint Lary Soulan, situated just 20 ms from the Spanish border. It is a quality resort and also training site for the Spanish national team. There are excellent slopes with modern equipment and a fine selection of accommodation. Among other popular ski resorts are Les Angles and Luz Ardiden.
